Hello aspirant.
With 80% in a mechanical diploma, you can apply for lateral entry admission to B.Tech (Mechanical or related branches). Admissions are usually through state counselling or entrance exams, depending on the college. You can also explore private engineering colleges and polytechnic-to-degree programs.
Thankyouu
Government Polytechnic Kanpur offers diploma courses like Mechanical Engineering and Automobile Engineering, and placement support is an important part of the overall training. In the 2024 placement session, many students from these branches were able to secure job opportunities through the institute’s placement cell. Companies from core engineering sectors, automotive industry, manufacturing, service and construction fields visit the campus looking for diploma holders in mechanical and automobile streams.
The placement cell organises pre-placement talks, skill development sessions, resume preparation, mock interviews and industry interactions to help students get ready for recruitment. While the average salary packages for diploma students may not be as high as those for degree holders, many students receive job offers in roles such as maintenance technician, service engineer, site supervision, production associate, quality control assistant and field service executive. Some students also get placed in companies that provide apprenticeship training, which further helps them gain work experience.
It is also important to note that individual performance, technical knowledge, communication skills and willingness to learn play a major role in how well a student performs in the placement process. Government Polytechnic Kanpur has a reasonable track record of placements in 2024 for Mechanical and Automobile diploma students, and many graduating students were able to secure offers with respectable companies based on their skills and preparation. All the best.

Some states have exam like LEET, JEECUP, or KEAM, while some colleges give direct admission based on your diploma marks. The exam usually covers subjects from your diploma, like maths, basic mechanical engineering and physics. Once admitted, you start your degree from the second year.
Hello,
Yes, you are eligible.
For lateral entry (Direct Second Year) in Government Polytechnic Nagpur , one of the accepted qualifications is 12th (HSC) with Physics, Chemistry and Math. The minimum required percentage is around 35%.
You have 56% in HSC, so you meet the basic eligibility for Mechanical and Electrical branches.

Hey, as a 2nd year Btech CSE student I will suggest you to only choose your career as a software engineer if you are really passionate about this field. You'll only earn more in less time when you're working in a domain in which you're good at. If you enjoy participating in competitive coding, hackathons you can go for a career as software engineer. At the end of the day you'll realise that the only way to earn more in less time is to love the work you're doing.
If we analyze these careers, in termw of which one is more likely to earn faster then we could say the ranking should be
1. Software engineer
2. Mechanical engineer
3. Fashion designer
Choosing a field purely for early pay mighr neglect whether you enjoy the work. So be careful while choosing between these career options.
If you're goal is to earn more sooner, then software engineer is the career where you are most likely to earn more in less time.
All the best
